What should I get my Dad for Father’s Day? A medal probably.
For over thirty years he has been my friend, my taxi, my bank, my handyman, my mechanic and my hero.
I don’t think there is anything in this world that could express how much I love and respect him, how grateful I am for all the opportunities, support and advice he has given me. So I’ll give him his favourite chocolate and call him an old fart instead. He’ll understand.
If your Dad is anything like mine he won’t want anything and anything he needs will be of the power tool, camera equipment, yacht variety. So I always opt for something cheeky or silly. I’m guaranteed a wry smile and a raised eyebrow when my Dad opens a retro game, but I know he secretly loves it.
This year I’m tempted by a Dr Who Sounds key fob or a Science Museum Mini Robot to amuse him, and to poke fun at him a little more an inflatable Zimmer frame… not that he is getting old in my eyes, to me he will always be my hero.
What will you be treating your Dad to this year?
