It’s now 3 years since Alexandra Burke won the X Factor but she proves she still has it as she wore a stunning dress with perfect makeup and hair to the GQ Man of The Year Awards. She always gets it right!
Alexandra taught all of us ladies an important fashion lesson – when the dress is loud, keep your accessories muted. Leading by example, she teamed a minimal black clutch and geometric earrings with her full length abstract print dress.
Alexandra hasn’t just been walking the red carpet lately. Her singing career is blossoming as always and the loud-mouthed diva recently celebrated her 23rdbirthday at Manchester’s annual Pride Festival by performing in a risqué number and knee high boots. Wow!
If you’re inspired by the star’s ability to dress to impress then read our exclusive interview with Alexandra below. She shares some fashion tips and says who and what inspires her.
QS: How would you describe your style?
ALEX: “I feel like it’s changed. I don’t go anywhere without my heels, which is something that has definitely changed, because before I used to be like ‘I hate heels, I hate heels’, then my sister made me think I have to wear them everyday. My sister’s a major influence on me with my sense of style.”
QS: What style tips have you picked up?
ALEX: “Never be afraid of colour and always be yourself. If you want to follow a trend, fair enough, but my motto is set the trend, don’t follow it. My sister is always telling me not to constantly match what I’m wearing. She tells me not to match your shoes with your bag.”
QS: Talking of setting trends, would you ever do a Lady Gaga and dress in eccentric outfits?
ALEX: “I wouldn’t walk around with coke cans in my hair and telephones and stuff, but that’s her thing and I love her for it because it looks hot on her. I don’t think I’d be able to get away with that”
QS:In promotional pics for your single, All Night Long, you’re posing with a bare back. What parts of your body do you feel more confident showing off?
ALEX: “I have turned into quite a daring person over the past couple of years. Every girl has insecurities, but I guess the part I love the most about myself would probably just be my legs. So you’ll see me in shorts and dresses a lot, with heels obviously.”
QS: We’ve spotted you sporting some serious metallic pieces for your single and album covers – they look so heavy, how do you do it?
ALEX: “They are quite heavy! I save the metallics for special occasions, such as photo shoots, and videos. Those are the times when I really get to enjoy wearing these types of jewellery pieces because you can go crazy and be extravagant. On a day to day basis if I was to walk out in a corset and little mini shorts, looking like I did on the Bad Boys cover, people would probably think I was nuts. But it’s ok for covers and shows.”
And talking of shows, Alex certainly put on a performance at the GQ award with her long grey maxi dress. A similar style available at Very is the chic Olivia Rubin trudi jersey maxi dress
If you’d prefer something more sparkly for a night on the tiles try the Teatro embellished long sleeve maxi dress with silver and grey around the neckline and waist
Or for a sliver dress with the wow factor try the stunning Teatro sequin maxi dress
Alex carried a black clutch bag like the Future Medieval woven front clutch bag
And to lengthen your legs to make the maxi dress look even better you need some hot heels like the Love Label crystal block heel shoes
Alexandra never fails to dress up for shows, which is why we’re excited about the new Michael Jackson tribute concert she’s playing a part in this October in Cardiff. Paying tribute to the King of Pop demands a glamorous look!
