Your City Style Guide

When it comes to weekends away nothing gets me more irate than the ridiculously small checked baggage allowance that is offered by the budget airlines plus the ‘privilege’ of paying for it too!  Then there’s the risk of extra costs if  I’m a minuscule one kilo over weight (that’ll be the extra pair of heels shoved in at the last minute). I’ve now learned to take a small wheelie bag as hand luggage so I can squeeze a few more clothing items in there alongside my handbag and if I’ve been a particularly thrifty packer I can leave the wheelie bag half empty for holiday shopping purchases on my return. This extra space is handy to have on the way out in case my suitcase is overweight at check in I can chuck some items into my wheelie bag and avoid those goddamn charges. I’d also recommend buying a new lightweight case (my new one is only 3.5kg, whoop whoop!) Anyhow,  I’m going to breathe deeply, calm down and moooove on. Here are a few of my style tips on what to wear in some of the greatest cities around the world – Paris, New York, Milan (or Rome but Milan is soooo fashion) and of course London.

Paris is all about looking effortlessly chic and well groomed. Nothing too fashion or too crazy, it’s all about mixing neutrals and looking sleek. Go for  leather biker jackets, I love this Love Label Luxe Leather Biker Jacket, striped Breton tops like this Love Label Swing Detail Top (and still very much in fashion), cropped trousers like these Oasis Cropped Coloured Trousers, tunic dresses (Miss Sixty Pleated Jersey Dress or South Embellished Dress), ballet pumps (Dune Doze Bow Ballerina Pumps), scarves (Silk Dogtooth Check Scarf). Finish you outfit off with a Chanel-esque quilted handbag (Lipsy Quilted Underarm Bag) of course.

New York has got to be bold and strong , kinda dressed up and dressed down at the same time! Go for a sports luxe look with hooded jackets (Love Label Hooded Sports Jacket),  grey marl T’s (Love Label Jersey T-shirt or Love Label Lace Back Sweat Top), fitted skirts – leather keeps it luxe (South Leather Pencil Skirt) and oversized statement bags (Distressed Leather Tote Bag).  Explore the 70s vibe by night, Studio 54 style, by wearing a faux fur coat (Love Label Coloured Faux Fur Coat) and sexy flared jeans (Miss Sixty Tommy Bootcut Jeans) or jewel coloured dresses (South Split Maxi Dress).

Italy is all about glamorous, sexy, womanly, gorgeousness. Think Dolce & Gabbana ad campaigns with hot Sicilian temptresses, glammed to the max in animal prints whether that be a faux fur coat (Love Label Belted Faux Fur Jacket) or fitted jacket (South Cropped Animal Print Jacket), pencil skirts and super skinny jeans (Love Label Super Skinny Jeans).

For London be kooky, be quirky, mash up different styles in crazy colour clashes and mix contemporary with vintage for a look that’s bohemian and individual.  Try a vintage style fringed kimono jacket (Love Label Fringed Floral Kimono Jacket), leather or PU trousers (Love Label Luxe Leather Trousers), go heritage in quilted jackets (Love Label Quilted Fur Trim Jacket) and tweed shorts (South Belted Tweed Shorts) or channel rockabilly in a long tuxedo jacket (Fearne Cotton Longline Tuxedo Jacket), shirt (South Tie Front Oversized Shirt) and peg leg trousers (French Connection Max Trousers). In London anything goes.

And my final tip for this city style guide – take a man with you. They always have space in their suitcase!
