Is it just me or is it getting a bit Brrrrrr recently?! I’m feeling the chill and despite adding a few more layers its clear that winter is definitely drawing in.
My husband, like many men, doesn’t approve of the heating going on too early. For once I agree what with the rising cost of heating our homes, so I’ve been wracking my brains and trawling the Very website to come up with some clever ways to keep the chill out and keep warm and toasty inside!
It’s bedtime that I’m feeling the cold most at the moment and my bed socks aren’t really a good look so it’s time to swap your summer duvet for a nice warm high-tog duvet. Very have a huge choice but I love this Downland Duck Feather and Down Duvet. This comforting duvet is a natural choice for night-time indulgence, filled with generous amounts of duck feather and down. Box-style pockets in the duvets have waffle walls to reduce cold spots, and the whole thing is wrapped in a pure cotton cover so you’ll be as snug as a bug in a rug in no time!
Next up in my box of warming tricks is the magic word: insulation. Make sure your home is properly insulated and you’ll stay warm and save on those heating bills too. Very have some lovely Faux Suede Thermal Blackout Pleated Curtains which not only look gorgeous but perform really well too. They have thermal and blackout properties which allow them to block out light and draughts, so they help you save energy and they’ll also help keep your home cooler during the summer months. Clever stuff!
If you’re anything like me there’s nothing more indulgent than a night in on the sofa with only the remote control for company. To fully enjoy this couch-potato position you’ll be needing a warming throw like this Plain-dyed Reversible Throwover. This plain-dyed throwover is generously filled for extra indulgent comfort. Plus because it’s reversible you can have a different colour on show to suit your mood or taste on a particular day – it’s like getting two throwovers in one! One last tip; it looks as good on the bed as it does on the sofa…
Now I want to mention how important lighting is at this time of year. With the clocks changing and all that lovely sunlight diminishing we need to ensure we’re getting enough of the bright stuff so it’s a great time to invest in a few more table lamps around the place. You can use these in addition to your ceiling lights to wake you up on dark mornings or for a lovely warm, cosy feel in the evenings. Choose a lamp to fit your colour scheme, but I particularly like the dark, sultry looks of this Madison 3-ball Table Lamp. It’s has an elegant, translucent body and contrasting chrome base while the shade is made from faux silk, adding a classy edge to this contemporary piece of home lighting.
Last but not least is the humble rug: for those of us with laminate flooring, the rug is even more essential in winter time as it can provide some much-needed under floor warmth. There are dozens to choose from from plain to patterned, from deep piles to short cuts. I would also advise choosing something washable during the colder months, especially in the hallway as those muddy feet and wet paws can take their toll! The Washable Shaggy Runner from Very has a lovely long pile which is deep and indulgent – perfect for walking across in bare feet. The anti-slip backing keeps it neatly in place on laminate and tiled floors, and it’s ideal for all areas of the home, including hallways, kitchens and conservatories. When you feel like it needs a clean simply put it in the washing machine – simple!
So all that remains now is to light the fire, have a nice warming cup of tea and enjoy that feeling of being warm inside when it’s miserable outside….
