I’m so excited about the new movie released this week, My Week With Marilyn, and have booked my ticket for this Saturday! It’s had rave reviews so let’s pay homage to Marilyn Monroe and learn how to get her iconic look.
All Hollywood stars back in the 1950’s had a signature eyebrow which is so 2011! Start by tweezing any unwanted hair using Mister Mascara Slant Tweezer’s & Mini. My top tip is to use a white pencil or concealer to white out the eyebrow hairs that you want to tweeze, which reveals the exact shape of the brow once the unwanted hairs are removed. After tweezing, define the shape of the brow using Love Label Brow Bar. It’s always best to tweeze before make-up application as the eyes can become watery and the skin gets a little red.
When you’re ready apply Rimmel 25 hour Foundation- Classic Beige and conceal using YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch just under the eyes and in the inner corners close to the bridge of the nose. Blend using your ring finger up onto the cheek bones to give an extra lift. Powder is as important as blending for this look and not only finishes the look, it helps your make-up to stay put so powder over and under the eyes.
Next is the eyeshadow application and I would strongly recommend you invest in some brushes – check out Jemma Kidd Essential Pro Tools, they are fantastic value and they come in a stylish case too.
For the eyes I would use Jemma Kidd Fashion Pallet. Start by using the pearl base shadow all over the lid to the brow bone. Then in the socket use her defining powder shadow and blend. If you have any hard edges, soften with the lighter pearl base shadow. Now add a flick either with the pencil in the Jemma Kidd pro kit for a real Hollywood flick. I highly recommend using Barry M Black Wink Marker Pen. Don’t apply too much pressure on the pen or you’ll create a thick flick, come up and out at the end.
Next curl the lashes and apply Elizabeth Arden Double Density Maximum Volume Mascara in Black. For the lips apply Barry M Lip Paint in Pillar Box Red. Use a lip brush, blot, powder and re-apply. You could apply a little Touche Eclat to the cupids bow for a fuller pout.
I always apply the blusher last when using a red lip so not to over or under blush. Contour the cheek bones.
If you want to achieve Marilyn’s curly hair, use a set of BaByliss Thermo-Ceramic Rollers. Section the hair and spray first with Elnett and set.
Now you will look like a movie star! Love Ginni x
