We can’t believe it’s over so soon; just three months ago we were saying hello to the likes of Edwina Currie and Dan Lobb (who we had completely forgotten about) and now it’s already the grand final from the Mecca Ballroom Blackpool…
We couldn’t argue with Harry, Chelsee and Jason reaching the final, they’ve all been brilliant. To decide who lifted the glitterball, all the finalists had to dance “the judges’ choice” and their showdance (whooop!). If they got through the vote to the final two, they then had to dance a routine they hadn’t done before, followed by their favourite dance.
Harry & Aliona Champions of Strictly 2011!
As the rest of McFly (and Harry’s dad) staged a pitch invasion, we reflected smugly that we had predicted Harry would win last week.
Harry Judd & Aliona Vilani dancing the Quickstep
This was almost perfect, which means perfect in our eyes (as we’re not as picky as Craig) and Harry really showed off his ballroom skills. He’s got incredible hold and rhythm; it was really difficult to tell who the professional and who the celebrity was. As the classic ballroom boy, Harry looks dreamy in his tux, but a suit with a great cut makes every man look better, so check out our range of men’s suits if you want your fella to look as dapper as Harry this Christmas.
Jason Donovan and Kristina Rihanoff dancing the Paso Doble
Jason reprised his camptastic Paso to ‘I Will Survive’ from ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’, complete with massive day-glo pink feathers. It was loved again by everyone – even Craig was quite laid back out Jason’s bum sticking out too much!
Chelsee and Pasha dancing the Jive
The big question was – would Pasha have the full on Shrek make-up? Of course not, with all those costume changes…he just had a smear of green on his face, with the ears attached to his hair. This was a fast and zippy jive, covering the whole dancefloor. Green make-up doesn’t have to be cartoonish though; try the gorgeous Barry M Dazzle Dust in Emerald for a sparkle and sheen that’s a bit different.
Always the nerviest part of a Strictly final, all the couples offered dangerous lifts and dazzling moves. Harry & Aliona went for a rock ‘n’ roll theme with Aliona wearing leggings that seemed to be sprayed on. Have you got great legs like Aliona? If so, these Love Label Foil Leggings are for you! Jason & Kristina went full on showbiz, incorporating a strip-tease as Kristina started off in a pin-stripe suit and ended up in a bikini!
Chelsee & Pasha got a fashion 10 from us for their funky disco dance with Chelsee in full-on Beyonce mode with her glittery gold mini dress. Our Drama Queen Backless Sequin Bodycon Dress is a similar showstopper for your Christmas party.
The Second Half
As everyone said, it was sad to see any of the couple leave after all their efforts, but the time had come to say goodbye to Jason & Kristina. They’d been brilliant finalists, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Harry & Aliona dancing the American Smooth
Back to the ballroom with a romantic, Viennese Waltz inspired Smooth. Is there anything this boy can’t do? Once again Harry showed that sharp tailoring works so well, this time with a neat waistcoat.
Chelsee & Pasha dancing the Rumba
This was a romantic Rumba with complicated moves and “sliding splits”. Chelsee’s simple white dress complimented the mood, with extra detail added by her diamante jewellery, including drop earrings, which were very similar to these Silver Heart Earrings.
Harry & Aliona dancing the Argentine Tango
Following a typically chaotic group number with all the previous competitors brought back for a moment in the spotlight, Harry & Aliona took to the floor for their final dance – sniff! Their challenge was to prove to Len that their dance had intensity – of course they succeeded and it was 10s all round!
Chelsee & Pasha dancing the Quickstep
Last, but not least, Chelsee & Pasha took to the ballroom for the final time to do the Quickstep that had first turned Chelsee into a contender many weeks ago. From Beyonce in her showdance, now Chelsee channelled Britney Spears with her cute blue air hostess outfit, like the one Britney wore in the Toxic video. We loved the look and the dance.
Oh dear, that’s it for Strictly 2011…what are we going to watch now? We’re looking forward to next year when (looking into our crystal balls), we expect to see Michael Portillo, one of the B*witched girls, Alan Hansen, Barbara Windsor and many more celebrities battling to raise the glitterball. Who do you think will take part?
Bye for now and keeeeeep dancing! x
