Last week things got emotional when Jason and Kristina ended up in the bottom two; this week more tears were promised as we got ready to say goodbye to two couples; and with the grand final taking place in the legendary Blackpool ballroom, this is the last week in the Strictly studio. Wow, this has come around so quickly!
Aw, bless – all the other McFly boys were in the audience cheering bookies’ favourite Harry on.
There was a vague nautical theme to their costumes and Harry is wearing a very flattering navy blue satin shirt. Dark shirts are flattering to men with less defined muscles too, so it’s no surprise that Harry looks so good; try our Goodsouls Mens Shirt for a Very-approved option. His Charleston was nippy and precise – leading to the first standing ovation of the night. Would you bet against Harry raising the Glitterball?
Alex wasn’t quite as good as the other finalists, but she has shown massive improvement – and has been one of the best-dressed throughout the series. She was wearing another elegant sweeping pale-peach, sequined ball gown, which had us worried throughout about another heel-snagging incident occurring. Happily she got through the Waltz without any problems.
Alex matched her eye make-up to her glittery dress with some fine glitter dust around the eyes; try out the Barry M Fine Glitter Dust in Silver to get the same look.
Chelsee’s journey has been about turning into a princess – what a contrast from that first show when she wiggled and giggled about being “single and ready to mingle”. We’re trying to keep neutral, but we do love her partnership with Pasha. Yes, they are our favourites!
They danced to ‘Time After Time’ by Cyndi Lauper, which isn’t an obvious American Smooth choice, but – as ever – it was almost perfect. The choice of pale turquoise costumes is pretty perfect too for both Chelsee and Pasha’s colouring. Everyone seems to wear reds and blacks at parties this time of year, so what about this glamorous South One Shoulder Embellished Dress to stand out from the crowd?
Holly has been our winner in the fashion stakes so far, but we didn’t love her Argentine Tango dress, as it looked a little bit too much like a gymnastic leotard – sorry Holly! On a more positive note, Holly was giving the dance great legs (best legs of the Strictly 2011?)
Oh dear, not that this was bad, but we read one description of their outfits as “giant prawn costumes” and now we can’t forget that!
And now for the second round…
We knew that Harry would deliver a polished, rhythmic VW – and he certainly did. What’s more, in his tailed suit, we reckon there were a good few brides-to-be watching who would love that for their hubby. A well-tailored classic, men’s suits – when matched with a simple white shirt and a boldly coloured tie – always give a timeless look.
The costume department seem to have been inspired by Bjork’s notorious Oscars Swan dress as Alex wass decked out in feathers galore. Her hair looked amazing with big, bouncy curls; I wonder if she used the BaByliss Big Hair Hot Air Brush to transform her look.
Now it was time for that Christmas miracle to happen. Yes, this “Pasha Doble” caused Craig to dust off his old 10 paddle – leading to the first perfect score of Strictly 2011.
For a Spanish feel, Chelsee accessorised with a white flower in her hair, which was neatly tied into a bun. This is a nifty way to update your hairdo for a night out after work.
This was a Charleston with a difference, more of a swing jive really – and I think it suffered by not having as much as the whacky, burlesque fun-feel that Charlestons usually have.
Holly wore spangly hot pants, showing off those great legs again. For a similar look that’s a little more subtle, try these French Connection Apollo wool shorts, with a very flattering cut.
Last, but certainly not least, it was time for Jason and Kristina to steam up the dancefloor with a seductive Argentine Tango.
The judges loved it and – yes! This scored the 2nd perfect 40 of the night (someone go and check Craig’s temperature…)
With dancers and viewers alike exhausted after this dance marathon, it seemed cruel to say goodbye after such a high level of entertainment. Alex was bottom of the leaderboard and unsurprisingly was first to go. Next, we learnt that Holly and Artem were also leaving. Holly was fighting back tears as she thanked Artem…
So, the finalists are – Chelsee, Harry and Jason. Who will have the maddest showdance? Will Chelsee have another wardrobe malfunction? Who will win?
Visit us next week for our recap of the Strictly 2011 final – keeeeeeeep dancing!
