Your 2012 Gym Survival Guide

There’s lots of things that we tend to do in January. We celebrate the New Year, clear away the Christmas decorations and look forward to pay day after a five-week month, but above all else, we hit the gym.  As people make their new year’s resolutions, gyms across the country are full to bursting with new members looking to work-off a few pounds, although many of us soon get out of the routine as the year wears on. One consumer group reckons that we Brits waste around £37m a year on unused gym memberships.

So this year, we’re going to take our gym membership seriously. No really, we mean it this time! We’re fighting the bulge and we’re getting ourselves kitted out properly. We’re not doing it by half in 2012 – it’s Olympic year after all.  So here’s our quick guide to making sure that you’ve got everything that you need if you’re going to hit the gym – and look good doing it.

We’ll start by looking at mens sportswear and, because it is the year of the London Olympics, we’re going to get our inspiration from Team GB with this adidas Originals Mens Team GB T-shirt.  People will be in no doubt who you’ll be backing for gold this summer with this T-shirt, which features the adidas Originals logo to the front, along with the Team GB branding.  And for womens sportswear check out this adidas Cropped Zip-through Hoodie – you can leave it zipped up until you have abs like the model in the shot!

So that’s the t-shirts sorted, but what about the trainers? Well, for the guys, we really like the look of these Reebok Flashvibe Train Mens Trainers.  These trainers use Reebok’s Zigtech technology to provide the perfect level of support and cushioning, protecting your feet whilst still allowing you to get the most from your workout. The mesh outer allows air to flow through the trainer and the cool blue styling really makes them stand out.  For the girls, we’ve also found a supportive and stylish trainer in the form of the K-Swiss Tubes Run 100 Cushioning Trainers.  Durability is achieved with a full length Aosta II rubber outsole whilst the anatomically correct flex-grooves enhance flexibility and cushions the foot. The stay-tied laces mean that you can keep on running and the pink styling ensures that you look great as you work out.

Of course, you’re also going to need something to carry all of your kit to and from the gym, so we have picked out some bags for you.  What about this Head ATP Backpack. Backed by some leading tennis pros from the ATP Tour, you’ll have more than enough room for your gym gear with its 28 litre storage space. You’ll also find side pockets for your smaller items and a detachable strap for easy portability.  If you want something more girly, check out this Nike Livestrong Varsity Duffle Bag and this Pineapple Retro Roll Bag.

And finally, what gym outfit would be complete without the earphones? If, like us, you like to lose yourself in your music whilst you work out, then you’ll need a pair of quality, practical earphones to get you going.  We like these Skullcandy INKD Earphones, which are also available in Paul Frank pink, because they look and sound great. These in-earphone also sit snuggly inside your ear, meaning that they block out external noise and that they don’t fall out as you move around.

You might also want to take your own accessories to the gym, like these girly pink Pineapple Cement Dumbell 5lb, some Pineapple Stretch Bands and this Sportline Solo 925 Womens Heart Rate Fitness Watch measures step and distance, heart rate and calorie burn monitor.  It’s also water resistant to use when swimming or in the shower too!  There’s also a girly pink Body Sculpture 500ml Running Water Bottle.

Obviously, we’ve only scratched the surface of the great range of gym equipment and sportswear so why not check it out for yourself? Oh – and good luck with your New Year’s resolution! x

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than just your
articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and everything.
However just imagine if you added some great images or video
clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos,
this site could definitely be one of the greatest in its field.

Awesome blog!
