Unless you’ve been living on a different planet recently, you’ll have noticed that US pop superstar Rihanna was in London for the Brit Awards. I was really honoured to report on the event for Very and therefore felt it my duty to keep watch on one of the stylish women on the planet. While Jessie J and Adele made sure British women kept up in the glamour stakes, it’s not often you get to hang out with an A’list diva like Rihanna!
So how does an international music icon work an event like the Brits? Firstly, she had to get her work out of the way, so she stayed backstage at the O2 arena until it was time for an energetic performance of We Found Love. This was so crazy that paint ended up flying around onstage as Rihanna danced in a skimpy pair of white hotpants and oversized Timberland boots. I’m told they practised this more than any other act to ensure that no paint flew into anyone’s face in the front row.
Gig out of the way, Ri-Ri was able to relax and took to a table in the auditorium where she sat with her record label execs at Universal and fellow Universal artist Jessie J. When Rihanna won an award for Best International Female, we spotted Jessie giving Rihanna a huge kiss on the lips. But then, who wouldn’t want to kiss Rihanna when she’s paint-free and in an elegant maxi dress? Wow! Then it was time for another outfit change into a yellow satin going out dress ahead of a drop-in at a party thrown by her record label at the Tate Modern in Bankside. When this ended at 2am, I thought Rihanna would go straight home but I was told she had booked a table at Mayfair cocktail bar Mahiki. Any excuse to continue the party, I popped into Mahiki and saw Rihanna giving it her all on the dancefloor- where does she get her energy from? Impressively, she stayed at the club until 4am, emerging in a pair of sunglasses to cover her eyes. Personally, I prefer a chic pair of designer sunglasses but it’s an interesting tip and will come in useful the following day. If you’ve got a hangover, then sunglasses are essential to ease tired eyes and sore heads. Check out the sophisticated Rayban Jacki Ohh shades for a stylish way to disguise a heavy night!
Apart from Rihanna, another highlight of the evening was chatting to Bruno Mars about recording his next album. He’s also a Rihanna fan and said he was asking her to do a collaboration for his next track. Watch this space! X Factor singer Matt Cardle revealed he’s already back in the studio working on his second album. There’s no harsh feelings between himself and any former X factor contestants that may have done better than him in terms of winning awards, as he said he’s happy that he gets to make music. Bless! Here’s me and Matt.
