London Fashion Week is like a monster ice cream sundae with chocolate sprinkles on the top – as if looking at gorgeous clothes wasn’t enough, we get to look at the celebrities sitting in the front row seats. And the best thing is that it happens non-stop for a whole four days. Amazing!! One of the best things about this is it gives us inspiration for what to wear right now. Looking at the clothes on the catwalk is dreamy but these aren’t going to be ready until Autumn/Winter. But the well-dressed celebs in the front row are wearing looks that we can all copy right now. As Very has been to quite a few shows in the past few days, we’ve rounded up our top three.
First up, the POP by PPQ show attracted a very British crowd including Jameela Jamil, MTV presenter Laura Whitmore and celebrity chef Gizzi Erskine, who were all wearing rather stylish hats. One thing we noticed at this was the rise of the blazer, maybe because it was a chilly day at Somerset House where the fashion show was staged. Caroline Flack looked quite cute in hers, matching it with some city shorts as you can see in the gallery above. Pixie Lott had a satin one, which looked rather fab!
And talking of warm layering, the long-sleeve look continued to the Henry Holland show in East London, where we spotted Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof on the front row next to radio 1 presenter Nick Grimshaw. Look closely and you’ll see Alexa rocking a boyfriend cardigan, and we admire Pixie for making a statement in a faux fur coat.
The final stylish show we encountered was Mulberry, where it was a very genteel affair. In fact it was like the period drama front row as Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery sat near to My Life With Marilyn Actress Michelle Williams but then we saw Pixie Geldof (again). We thought the stars all looked quite sophisticated though, again opting for jackets. We like Michelle D’s buttonless grey jacket but Michelle W’s blue number has a touch of military chic about it. Meanwhile Vogue editor Anna Winour sat next to actor Bill Nighy and didn’t follow the trend – as the editor of the fashion bible she prefers to dictate fashions. Instead, she wore a long-sleeve dress. And singer Lana Del Ray wore a beige sports jacket, which is controversial but she pulled it off.
Sometimes you have to suffer for fashion but it’s interesting to see how celebs can make jackets look fashionable rather than frumpy. I’m going to get a jacket from Very in tribute, but the question is: black, blue or satin?
