Anne Hathaway was glowing in gold at the premiere of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises in Leicester Square, stealing the spotlight from Batman Christian Bale. She’s probably making the most of not having to wear a catsuit for a while, which is a good job as she’s just announced she’s pregnant! Awwwwwww, bless.
Her gold maxi dress makes her look chic and elegant but I couldn’t resist asking what it was like to wear the Catwoman costume. This is what she exclusively revealed:
Q: Did you feel nervous walking around the set in a tight catsuit?
ANNE: “I decided it was probably better for my stress levels to focus on how I felt in the jumpsuit rather than look at myself in it. There weren’t any mirrors around but occasionally I went to the bathroom and caught a glimpse, so I actually got to know it one piece at a time, never the full version. But the first time I was in it, Tom [Hardy] came out as Bane and Christian [Bale] was in the Batman suit and I got a chill.”
Q: How did you prepare for the role?
ANNE: “The skin-tight costume doesn’t really hide much, so I worked with a movement coach to make sure that I was going to be very comfortable in my body. If you had to wear a catsuit in front of the entire world, I guarantee you would get your butt to the gym.”
Q: What did you learn from the shoot?
ANNE: “I’d never done anything like that because it wasn’t just about looking a certain way. I had to learn to fight, I had to become strong enough to be able to fight for many days at a time.”
Q: Did you fight in heels or flats?
Sensible answer! Anne’s next role is as Fantine in the film version of Les Miserables, which is again totally different to how we saw her in her first major role in The Devil Wears Prada. She’s an example of how if you have confidence and hold your head high, you can pull off any look. From catsuit to maxi dress, everything Anne does she does it with style. Long may it continue!
