Rita Ora must be one of the breakthrough successes of this year as she’s just found out she’s nominated for an impressive FOUR Mobo Award nominations. Jay-Z’s protegee is up for awards in the categories Best Female, Best Video for RIP featuring Tinie Tempah, Best Album for Ora and Best Newcomer. Go, girl! Emeli Sande, Labrinth and Plan B are also mentioned in several spots so it’s going to be an fiercely competitive night when the awards are given out at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on 2 November.
Even the launch announcement was pretty fabulous with everyone making an effort with their outfits and trying to put any past feuds between them to appear at the same event. One of the talking points was seeing ex-lovebirds and ex-N-Dubz bandmates Tulisa and Fazer both walk the red carpet since they split up, which must be a bit of progression in their relationship. Good for them!
Here’s some nominations and insider gossip:
Tulisa has been nominated for the first time as a solo star, because this time last year she was still in N-Dubz. But, bless her, she is scared. The singer revealed to me: “It feels weird to be on my own in this category. It’s great but it’s very scary.” But is it as scary as appearing on the X Factor judging panel, T?
Emeli Sandé, Rita Ora, Jessie J, Jessie Ware, Rebecca Ferguson are also up for Best Female.
Former X Factor star Misha B had a brilliant night as not only is she up for Best Newcomer, she performed at the launch party and got a standing ovation from all the celebrity guests. Dressed in a gorgeous black dipped back dress, Misha revealed she is supporting Nicki Minaj on tour next month – what a year 2012 has been for her!
Delilah, Stooshe, Angel, Rudimental, Lianne La Havas, Aluna George, Conor Maynard, Jessie Ware and Rita Ora are also up for Best Newcomer.
Best R&B / Soul act
Rebecca Ferguson has done incredibly well to scoop two nominations including Best R&B and Soul Act. At the noninations party, she showed off a more rock star image with a white blouse and leather-looking black skirt. The mother of two says she feels ‘truly honoured’ for the nominations and is currently working on her second album. Looking forward to that one!
Angel, Emeli Sandé, Labrinth and Maverick Sabre will challenge Rebecca in this category.
