Now that spring has sprung… sort of… it’s time to get your house spruced up for the season. If you don’t have the time or the energy for a full overhaul though there’s no need to worry, these few simple ideas will have your house looking tip top this spring.
Go retro – retro is huge at the moment, on the catwalk and in the home. The plus point of this is that 60’s trends are light, bright and ideal for the warmer months. A few vibrant orange touches around the house add a sunny vibe to a room and are a great pick me up to get you ready for the summer. Think rugs, cushions and mugs.
De-clutter – it sounds simple but getting rid of all that extra clutter will bring a fresh, new feeing to your home in an instant. Can’t bear to part with it all? Worry not, clever storage solutions are the way forward. Check out some here.
Floral touches – flowers add an instant spring feeling to a room, but if you don’t want to spend time arranging them there’s plenty of other options to choose from. Cath Kidson is the queen of floral prints and I’m in love with this gorgeous Cath Kidson radio! Floral accents like cushions, paintings and fake flowers all work well too, breathing new life into a room.
Stock up on stencils – patterns are no longer just for the children’s room and fun stencils are a great way to add life to a room without having to get the paint rollers out. Try making your own with a little creatively and some card. Opt for sunflowers in the kitchen or a flock or birds around a window frame.
Lighten up – lighting can really change the mood of a room. As much as I would like to tell you it will be so lovely this summer the sun will be streaming through the windows, it’s best to have a back-up. Invest in standing lamps for the corner to instantly brighten a room and stock up on outdoor lighting for a warm summer evening. Also remember to get your windows cleaned in case the sun does start to make an appearance!
And there you have it. A quick makeover to get you, and your home, ready for spring!
