I love festivals but I REALLY love festivals when the weather stays warm and for the Wireless Festival it was a scorcher. It was amazing! Everyone in the Queen Elizabeth Park in Stratford was walking round with massive smiles on their faces…and not just because of the star-studded music line-up but because it meant we could wear some cute outfits, the guys could take their tops off and we could all wear sandals instead of wellies to watch the show.
And what a show it was – three days of non-stop highs. I did my best to get to as many gigs as possible to get the goss. I’ve picked my top five moments below to try and give you a flavour of what went on:
Little Mix (above) didn’t let the heat put them off looking cute, all opting for different black and white outfits. I liked Perrie’s printed trousers but Jade Thirlwall’s checked shirt did it most for me. Meanwhile – Jesy displayed her toned stomach in a crop top and Leigh-Anne had a boyish style in camouflage outfit. It’s good to see they have their own individual dress sense. Nobody in pop dresses quite like them right now. As for the songs, when they ran out of their own they did a fantastic cover of Don’t Let Go by 90’s band En Vogue. Very cool!
One of the highlights of the festival for me was when Rita Ora performed with Snoop Lion on the first day of the festival as it was so unexpected. Her own performance wasn’t until the Saturday night. Snoop and Rita performed Torn Apart in front of the crowd of 50,000 and everyone went crazy. Also, it was really good to see Rita get out of her casual shorts and wear a stunning green dress. Wow! It was a big contrast to the outfit she wore to her solo performance!
Emeli had a difficult task as she had to warm up for Jay Z (not easy) plus she had just come from performing at T in the park. But all the travelling and performing is making her adapt her game and she’s looking better than ever. Wearig a polka dot jumpsuit with a cinched in waist, Emeli looked chic and svelte. Now everyone knows the words to her hits due to all her touring last year, she had most of the crowds waving their arms and singing along, really getting them in the mood for Jay-Z. She really is talented.
I hadn’t ever seen Kesha live before but I really recommend seeing her if you get a chance as this lady put on one of the most energetic sets of the festival..as well as one of the most eye-popping outfits. She was almost as crazy as Pink is live – owning the stage, doing acrobatics and generally rocking out. The highlights of her set were Die Young and We R Who We R, which both had the whole audience singing along. She has a gig in Brixton this week then several European dates and if you like an artist to truly entertain you then you won’t be disappointed by a Kesha gig, trust me.
Jay-Z wore one of the biggest gold chains I have ever seen for his headline on Saturday night, you could probably see it towards the back of the crowd! With a huge set of lights behind him, the rapper came on and started off with Public Service Announcement (Interlude). After 17 years in the music industry it’s always going to be hard for Jay to perform all the tracks his fans want to hear. But he did a great job choosing much loved classics like Jigga What, Jigga Who, Hard Knock Life, 99 Problems and Dirt off your shoulder. Speaking to the crowd he said: “I feel the love tonight. I like it out here. I feel beautiful and I feel your energy. I appreciate it. You’ve been an incredible audience tonight.”Then the crowd surprised the rapper as they energetically rapped along word for word to his newest tracks, Tom Ford, Picasso Baby and Beach Is Better. The only thing that would have made in better was if Beyonce came on stage, but I guess someone had to babysit…
