I absolutely love London Fashion Week (LFW) – seeing fashion non-stop and getting tons of inspiration – and in the past couple of years LFW has expanded. Not in the sense the week’s got longer (although they do squeeze in as many shows as possible in the time available) but in the way that there’s now London Fashion Week that’s just for men’s fashion and it’s the first week of January.
I didn’t get a chance to go along to the shows last year as I wasn’t sure what I would get out of attending a men’s fashion show but then I looked at the photos of the celebs on the Front Row and I kicked myself. David Gandy, Pixie Lott and Oliver Cheshire, Matt Smith and so many more. So this year, I made sure I was there at the Superdry fashion show! It was a brilliant Front Row as you can see legendary actor Samuel L Jackson in the black hat, West End theatre star Luke Evans with the floppy hair and beard and next to him is Radio 1 presenter Nick Grimshaw. I’m not sure who the guy next to Grimmy is (in the hat) but it’s certainly an individual look!
Superdry was showing for the first time at London Fashion Week so it’s just as new to the scene as I am really, but I think that worked in its favour. It meant the stars popped in to see what all the fuss was about. Earlier in the day Tinie Tempah and David Gandy popped to the show space but sadly other commitments made them miss Superdry, which was an evening show. I find it funny to see David Gandy in glasses but he just about pulls off the geek chic Clark Kent look – what do you think?
Once the lights went down and the music started at the Superdry show it became clear that the real stars were the clothes, which will be part of the Autumn/Winter 14 range. I enjoyed it more than I thought as both men’s and women’s clothes were shown. Normally the LFW Men’s event is solely for the guys but as it’s Superdry’s first time and they didn’t show at the traditional Fashion Weeks, they’re breaking the rules. I like that attitude!
As it was Autumn/ Winter, there were a lot of jackets and overcoats. I always thought Superdry was a casual brand but there were some smart blazers in there…
In the women’swear, I really liked the padded jackets – very warm and cosy! Also, we’re going to be seeing a lot of khaki green as well as more traditional Winter colours like black and white.
One of the most popular pieces (that got a lot of attention on Twitter) was from the women’s collection. It was a grey mac with sequins on the shoulders. You can see it in the photo below and you can see Grimmy (next to the guy in the hat) talking to his friend, commenting on it. Looks like we may even be seeing people wear that to celeb parties when it comes on sale…
Seeing all those lovely jackets actually made me have coat envy! I wish the sequin dusted mac was on sale now although the weather we’re having now is more suited to a parka. What do you think?
