Is it getting to that stage of the year when you fall into a bit of a make-up rut? I always start the year with good intentions but when the seasons change from hot summer to early Autumn I start to wonder if it’s time for a change and worry about what to do. Fortunately, we can now make sure we’re on trend with more confidence as Very teamed up with three of my fave magazines – Company, Cosmopolitan and Reveal – for an evening of beauty where hair stylists, make-up artists, skincare gurus and self tan experts gave me their hottest tips.
Let’s start with the make-up:
Bourjois was the first stand I stopped by and when I say stopped, I meant sat down and got made up. It was bliss! As the lovely make-up artist Lisa put on my face she told me two interesting things. One was that the smoky eyes look is coming back but with light, silvery grey eyeshadow instead of dark brown / dark grey. Secondly, the lip trend is a cross between a matte and a gloss and she used a lovely Bourjois Velvet lipstick, which really brightened up my face and felt really moisturising.
Illamasqua also had a stand with make-up consultations so I was interested to see if they had similar advice. They did when it came to the lips, telling me their new products are nude lipsticks, which are also moisturising. They’re great if you want to focus on the eyes and just have a subtle colour on the lips.
For hair, BaByliss and ghd were on hand to demonstrate the trends. It was loose curls from BaByliss with their Soft Waves tong from the Boutique range . These give old school movie star glamour.
Loose waves were the look from ghd too. The stylists told me curls work better if the temperature of a straightening iron is higher as it needs to glide through the hair effortlessly and that’s why ghd straighteners are good for waves and curls. To get a wave rather than a curl, hold the straighteners at an angle.
Murad skincare was very interesting as they demonstrated mini facials. With air conditioning and central heating our skin doesn’t always get the moisture it needs and the Murad brand has a collection specifically tailored to hydrate skin.
Also, there is no doubt a natural looking tan helps our skin to glow. St Tropez has some lovely mousses, which I find simple to apply. There’s a new travel size one too, which I would use on the first day of my holiday before getting my swimwear on!
To sum up, we’re looking at:
Loose wavy hair, Light silver grey smoky eyes, Moisturised lips (a lipstick / gloss mix), Hydrated skin and Naturally glowing skin from St Tropez tan.
Do you agree?
