Make your fashion fantasies come true this party season in floor-length, shimmering pieces inspired by the likes of Katherine Hepburn. Think A-list, think Old Hollywood, think red carpet glamour.
Red carpet style has always been about luxury, designer dresses that go all out when it comes to glitzy Hollywood events.
Typical Old Hollywood styles included fur wraps, white and silver floor-length dresses, plenty of sequins and embellishments, elbow-length gloves, a handsome man on their arm and diamond accessories that included everything from drop earrings to tiaras!
Now we know that very few of us will ever actually be invited to walk down the red carpet, but there are plenty of other events when a ball gown is necessary. From special occasions to black tie Christmas parties, the #verypartyedit Fantasy Dresses trend offers an online exclusive for all you red carpet fashion lovers…lets take a look at some of the looks.
Keeping the tradition of silver screen starlets alive is this stunning Myleene Klass maxi dress (also available in blue).
The one shoulder design and figure-hugging fit are Hollywood inspired, while the beautiful lace detail and hue add a delicateness worthy of a spot on the red carpet. I’ve chosen a faux fur collar, silver clutch and cute ankle strap silver heels to wear with this piece to add a little extra touch of silver screen to your outfit.
For a sultry statement-making dress (for a girl with Sophia Loren’s cheeky personality), I love this Jessica Wright Beck sequin maxi dress.
It has everything your red carpet look needs from the delicate lace overlay to the semi-sheer lace back and sides. All it needs is a pair of black silk gloves that travel past your elbow and curls like Jess! I’ve chosen a pair of barely there sandals, black clutch and statement necklace to bring a splash of colour to your look.
If lace and sequins aren’t your thing then I’d recommend you try Ted Baker’s understated, full sleeve black maxi dress.
It’s an ever-so-simple piece that skims your silhouette for a lesson in understated chic. Much like Audrey Hepburn’s red carpet styles it needs very little to bring your look to life – just an Oscar-winning smile and a touch of glitz, which this dress offers up with the decadently embellished neckline. Wear yours with a pair of Carvela sandals, silver snake print clutch and a silver glittery nail polish by my favourite Nails Inc.
If you love black, but fancy a little more glitz and glam then you can’t go wrong with Forever Unique’s take on the fantasy dress trend.
With guipure lace to the front and backless, this maxi dress will make that show-stopping entrace you’ve always fantasised about. It’s a more contemporary take on Old Hollywood style, but the drape is beautiful and it’s oh-so easy to accessorise with. I’ve chosen glitzy silver peep toe platforms, with River Island drop earrings and Nails Inc Snowflake nail polish for plenty of sparkle as you make your red carpet style entrance.
Finally, moving away from the classic darker hues, the Little Mistress embellished maxi dress injects a splash of this season’s must-have colour palettes into your party wardrobe.
Rich and decadent, the purple hue of this dress is made for the season. The simple design is a mark of Old Hollywood style, far removed from the busy, and sometimes preposterous, designs you see the stars of today bringing down the red carpet. With just a hint of sparkle, the trim to the neckline creates the basis of your accessories wardrobe, while the wrap over front and subtle pleating effect create a flattering fit you’ll love (nearly as much as me)!
I’ve chosen Oasis drop earrings, Lipsy peep toe platforms and Nails Inc New Oxford Street nail polish for a perfect colour match!
As well as perfecting your red carpet outfit, you’ll be needing a flawless look too. Well, not to worry, our beauty babes have put together this cute video that’ll have you looking red carpet ready in no time.
There’s always an excuse for a red carpet look – mine’s the office Christmas party. So prepare your wardrobes ladies and start practicing your make up looks in time for the party season.
