If there’s one weekend where you can never be too over-dressed it’s at the Aintree Festival and in particular, The Grand National. It hasn’t always had the best reputation in terms of style as the media have focused on photos from the end of the day, when everyone’s had far too much fizz to drink.
However, this year, I was impressed by how elegant a lot of people dressed. My fave looks, from both the celebrities and the ordinary race goers, seemed to fall into three main categories: monochrome, bodycon midi dresses or creams and whites. There were no mini skirts and not too much flesh on display as a figure-hugging bodycon dress is equally attention grabbing – for the right reasons!
Have a look at the photos of the three catagories:
Liverpool footballer Fabio Borini and his WAG Erin McNeil
When you date a footballer, you know that you’ll get attention and I admire Erin in this monochrome dress.
Former model Jodie had a clever layering look going on. With the black coat, she keeps it formal but the orange dress underneath would be suitable for any race-day after parties.
Gorgeous revellers in monochrome
(2) Bodycon midi dresses
X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson suits colour so she I like the fact she went for a pink dress. If you’re going to go for colour it’s important to go for a mid-length to keep it classy.
Beautiful ladies in bodycon midi dresses
These ladies shared Renecca’s fashion tip – if you suit colour, like these ladies do, then don’t go too crazy with the shape of the dress.
(3) Creams and Whites
TOWIE’s Chloe Lewis and friends
The Only Way is Essex star Chloe Lewis (second from left) took her sister and friends to the races and it looks like they co-ordinated their outfits. I really like cream and beige dresses as they’re summery but easier to keep clean than white, which is important if you’re going to be outside all day.
Glowing smiles and pretty light colours from race-goers
These race goers looked glowing, with the neutral and white dresses helping the ladies to look fresh and healthy and naturally tanned, rather than orange.
So while you can’t control who wins (I backed Shut The Front Door and it came 5th) you can control what you wear. What was your favourite look from the ones above?
