#VerySummerEdit Ocean Colour Scene

Oh hello, ice lolly season. Salty beach hair, suncream-scented skin, piña coladas at the swim-up bar; while all of these lovely things mark the onset of summer, so do the beach-ready ensembles that grace the catwalks.

A pool of colour-poppin’ prints, supremely pretty petals and foil-finish fabrics made waves this season and in today’s Ocean Colour Scene edit, I’m looking at how we can take them from runway to vacay in one sun-drenched swoop. The key trend stories are bright, girly and glam, so pick a team or fall in love with all three. Let’s jump straight in…

Sports luxe influences are firmly engrained in this season’s beachwear offering – this cute ‘kini (top) is the case in point. Featuring colour-blocked panels and contrast piping, it takes sports-chic styling to new depths, while the buckle details to the side of the bottoms lend a flirty finish. Get matchy-matchy by wearing the set together, or tone it down by mixing it up with this monochrome bikini (bottom).

Our model (top) wears the colour block bandeau top, £20, by Resort with the matching bikini bottoms, £16. In the bottom image, she wears the monochrome colour-block bikini, also by Resort, also £20!

Bold, bright and not one petal short of beautiful, the girly swimwear trend is alive with floral-print fabrics, frills and whimsical one-pieces, which set a distinctly playful mood for holiday season. If pool parties are high on your beach agenda, the Little Mistress swimsuit (top) is right on your wavelength.  Style it out with heeled barely-there sandals to create the illusion of never-ending-legs. This + leg-lengthening sandals = totally Instagram-worthy.

The plunge bandeau swimsuit (top) is £22, by Little Mistress. Our model’s loose waves create a beautiful beachy look. The bottom image features the frill bikini set, £27, by Resort.

The key is in the deets with the glam trend. Chain details, cleavage-baring cut-outs and sheeny shiny accents offer a finish that attracts even the most ignorant of magpies.  The wrap-over design to the chain detail top (top) creates a slightly higher rise than your average bikini, which is balanced with a seriously jaw-to-the-floor cut-out front to show off your curves. And those chain detail sides to the bottoms = wow. The one-piece is borrowed from the girly trend, but offers a great alternative to the pink bikini; with cleverly-placed cut-outs, it creates a stunning shape, without showing off as much cleavage. A fedora, of course, perfects your poolside pose. Oh and a cocktail, don’t forget the cocktail.

Our model (top) poses in the scene-stealing chain detail bikini set, £29, by Little Mistress. The printed cut-out swimsuit (bottom) is £29 by Resort.

What are we thinking? Snap ’em up while you can by shopping the Ocean Colour Scene edit. Until next time, enjoy the sun, sand and salty beach hair.
