From glam rock to punk, Farah Fawcett to Liza Minelli and floral drenched prints to platform heels, the seventies was an eclectic time filled with upcoming wannabes who moved with the latest fashions, celebs and music…the Almost Famous era.
So, with this in mind, our latest trend sticks with summer’s love of all things seventies-inspired and features plenty of blooms, suede and flares, mixing it up with figure-hugging styles, beautiful accessories and, of course, plenty of glam!
Even some of our fave celebs are rocking the trend from Kate’s plunging neck jumpsuit (we have our very own on offer) and Miss Bosworth’s zesty little shift dress to Blake’s autumn-inspired florals! So let’s get to it…
Forget what you knew about the classic all-in-one and instead start taking lessons from this leggy one-piece – the gorgeous halter neck flared jumpsuit by Glamorous. It’s oh-so Almost Famous with it’s plunging neckline just waiting for a statement necklace and the glamorous wide leg that channels the flirty appeal of the infamous Studio 54.
Style Tip: A hot part of this trend is getting glam on the accessories front – think chunky bracelets, metallic, fringed necklaces and, of course, skyscraper platform heels!
THE MAXI DRESS
The maxi dress is a must when it comes to summer styling, but this Vlonging maxi by Vila gives the classic a glamorous twist with a 2-in-1 style and plenty of pretty pleats giving your look a fluid silhouette that’ll swish and sway with every fabulous step you take. What’s more, it’s perfect for bringing your A-lister style on holiday too!
Style Tip: Not every glam outfit requires heels – being 6 foot I’m wholeheartedly behind flats and know they can be glam too. To keep this dress looking effortlessly elegant simply add a pair of metallic flat sandals with matching rings and bracelets.
An iconic shape and one the girls in the office are loving at the mo, the shift dress is a key look for the season and in suede, like this button up beauty from Definitions, it puts a real seventies spin on a classic. Shifts are loved by women everywhere for their flattering fit, skimming your curves for a feminine silhouette. I love this piece for it’s zesty orange hue, bucking the tan colour palettes that are usually associated with suede.
Style Tip: Accessorising isn’t always about how many bangles you can wear on your wrist or rings on your fingers. Sometimes your outfit will make more of an impact with just a cool pair of oversized sunnies (try Myleene Klass’ animal print ones for size). Yes ladies, less sometimes really is more!
THE AUTUMN FLORAL
The runways were blossoming with floral power prints this season and this pretty printed playsuit by Definitions shows you how to take the oversized bloom look from runway to reality with its beautiful earthy colour palette of oranges and yellows creating its own stylish sunset across the fabric. Lightweight, floaty fabrics help too by infusing your look with a hint of bohemia and I absolutely adore the fluted sleeve for a truly glam silhouette even Liza would be proud of!
Style Tip: Let your bold prints do the talking and keep your accessories to a minimum. Instead, focus your attention on your eyes – creating a softened smoky eye with bronze eyeshadows, dramatic eyeliner to your top and bottom lids and plenty of volumising mascara.
From statement necklaces to statement heels, this season remember to keep our accessories loud and detailed. I’m loving the different animal prints from the croc clutch and leopard and snake cuffs to the envelope shoulder bag and platform sandals. While embellishments, although not a highlight of the Almost Famous trend, are definitely making their own impact, like these Miss KG platforms.
Perfect your glam A-lister style with our Almost Famous collection and channel Blondie’s attitude, Diane von Furstenberg’s effortless glamour and Studio 54’s kooky-cool personality!
