Did you notice that Olivia Palermo was on the Front Row of shows in New York, Milan, London and Paris this season? It’s hard to miss her as she always nails smart casual wear. She looks dressed up enough to fit into the glamour and extravagance of the show but she’s always comfortable and able to hold her head up high because she feels and looks good. That’s definitely something to aim for!
If you look closely, you can see that her secret is to do the basics well. She doesn’t go over the top when it comes to risking new shapes or prints. Instead, she goes for classic tailoring and well-fitted clothing like skinny jeans and sticks to block colours or stripes.
This year, her London and Paris looks were particular chic and surprisingly easy to copy. Let’s examine them properly:
It wasn’t warm in London this year so Olivia showed off some gorgeous new knitwear. Look at the skirt and you can see its made from some lovely thick material. The way it’s loose around her knees is like the V by Very fit and flare skirt. On her top half, she’s wearing a classic autumnal brown jumper. The V by Very cowl neck button side tunic would also look great with a skirt as its well fitted, which means it will flatter your shape and make you look slimmer. Feeling warm and looking slim? How good is that?
Olivia worked the nautical trend in a striped jacket, which looked quintessentially French. However, you don’t have to go all the way to Paris to look chic as there’s a lovely striped jacket at Very in the form of the V by Very striped trophy jacket. It looks amazing with skinny jeans as it stops at the waist so your legs look a little bit longer. The new V by Very mid rise Ella unpicked hem skinny jeans are lovely for Autumn as the slightly higher waist means you’ll never show any more skin than you want to and they look lovely with both sandals and boots for a day to night vibe. Also keeping in with the day to night style is knitwear that you can also wear as a party top. It will keep you warm when worn with a jacket for day but it’s light enough to wear on a night out. Try the V by Very open stitch detail peplum top.
Which look did you like best – Paris or London? Remember, the key is to do the basics well!
