After two months of back-to-back award ceremonies, it was time for the biggest and most prestigious one of all – The Academy Awards, otherwise known as The Oscars.
There was high drama on stage as La La Land was read out for Best Picture and when the producers were halfway through their acceptance speech, it was announced there’d been a mistake and Moonlight was Best Picture. So awkward!
But on the red carpet, the dramatic moments were for the right reasons as the month’s of hard work that the celebs had put in to pick their Oscars dress paid off. With glamorous gowns, radiant skin and some gorgeous up-dos, the stars looked polished in every way. These Oscars dresses are so stunning that they’re timeless – they serve as inspiration for us for any formal event that we’ll have to go to throughout the year. If your dress looks like something that a major actress has worn to the Oscars, how could you feel anything less than a million dollars?
Let’s have a closer look at 10 of the best, then look at who won what at the end of this blog post:
(1) Emma Stone
Emma wore gold to match her award for Best Actress. She’s had an incredible awards season, winning BAFTAs, Golden Globes and SAG Awards and so it was only right that she won this too. She’s been gracious and elegant as she’s collected all the awards, giving off a humble rather than smug vibe. She deserves the success.
(2) Jessica Biel
If you can’t wear gold at The Oscars, then when can you? Jessica looked dazzling in her gold sequin dress with her hair swept back so you could see the gold in all its glory. It hugs her curves and then spreads out into a fishtail skirt, which is very flattering as it balances out the figure. She looked gorgeous!
(3) Karlie Kloss
Karlie was one of a number of stars to wear a blue ribbon. What does that mean? It’s the sign of ACLU – the American Civil Liberty Union – which campaigns for the civil rights of American citizens including those whose lifestyle has been harmed by President Trump. On her white dress, it really stands out. White never fails to make an impact on the red carpet.
(4) Naomie Harris
The British actress made a fashion statement by showing off a lot of leg in her white dress. As she has fabulous legs, you can understand why she wants to show them off! Also, look carefully at her sandals and you’ll see another reason for the short dress. She wants to show off the embellishment on the strap and ankle of the mismatched pair. Cute!
(5) Viola Davis
Viola was glowing in a red maxi dress as she picked up Best Supporting Actress. The dress looked beautiful against her skin and hair and what’s really lovely is that she shows off a hint of her shoulders with its off-the-shoulder detail. It’s a small detail but it takes her dress from beautiful to magnificent.
(6) Nicole Kidman
Nicole walked tall and proud in a beige maxi dress that perfectly emphasised her long, lean figure. You need to dress to suit your body shape – if you have curves then show them off! You can then add some extra sparkle, just as Nicole has done, with some beautiful embellishment in the dress. A lot of effort’s gone into making Nicole’s dress, it looked so luxurious.
(7) Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy never puts a foot wrong when it comes to fashion and her white dress perfectly fitted in on the Oscars red carpet. White and silver are the ultimate combination for an attention-grabbing outfit. First, the white will catch people’s eyes and then the silver will shine in the light. If you really want to turn heads, remember white and silver!
(8) Kirsten Dunst
What make’s Kirsten’s black evening dress lovely is its shape. The strapless detail and asymmetric hem show that this is no ordinary black dress and it suits Kirsten’s fun sense of fashion. It’s not too formal but she makes it look a million dollars with that diamond necklace. If you want to show off some jewellery then a strapless neckline is the answer.
(9) Hailee Steinfeld
Hailee presented Emma Stone with her Best Actress award so she had to really make an effort with her outfit, knowing that she’d be on stage with a true winner. She did incredibly well though with her pretty grey floral dress that looked like something we’d see on a Disney Princess. A light touch of florals softens any look making the wearer look pretty and feminine.
(10) Halle Berry
It’s a brave choice to wear your hair au naturel on the red carpet but then look at Halle’s stunning silver dress. She can get away with anything in a dress like that. It has fringes, sequins and a flattering one shoulder detail – you couldn’t get more diva than that!
