National Portrait Gala: Most Glamorous Celeb Gowns

Celebrities don’t just attend film premieres and fashion parties, sometimes they show they’re interested in something more cultural and attend art galleries. London’s National Portrait Gallery was also very smart and asked Alexa Chung to be on their fundraising committee. This meant that even those stars who weren’t knowledgeable about art wanted to attend as Alexa Chung knows how to host a party!

The occasion was a gala dinner so the dress code was a lot more formal than a regular party. And as the Duchess of Cambridge popped in because she’s patron of the gallery, nobody wanted to look scruffy in front of Princess Kate! Now spring’s here it’s the ideal time to look at smart evening dresses as the summer balls, graduation events and horse racing days are fast approaching.

Let’s have a closer look at some of the best dressed celebs in their stunning outfits:

Alexa Chung

As the host of the event, Alexa had to make an entrance and she stood out in a polka dot dress. Monochrome is always a guaranteed way to get noticed and the bardot neckline of her maxi dress is super cute as it shows off a hint of flesh, but not too much and gives us all something to look at as it’s that little bit different. This is a fashion forward way of dressing for a smart event as it’s a maxi dress but she’s still true to her individual rock chick style.

Arizona Muse

The American model turned heads in a bright printed multicoloured maxi dress with an open back. It was dazzling from the front due to the mix of colours and then she turned around and took everyone’s breath away due to the dress’s backless detail. Sometimes covering up at the front and showing off your back can make a real impact.

The Duchess of Cambridge

Kate looked lovely in lace showing that a lace dress is perfect for a posh party. However, she makes hers a little bit different with the beautiful bottle green colour. This suits her hair colour and skin tone perfectly but the key thing is that it also brings out the hint of green that she has in her eyes. If you have a complexion like Kate’s, seriously consider wearing green.

Donna Air

The TV personality opted for a vintage pink dress and looked fresh and feminine. Spring is the perfect time of year to wear pastels and a dress like this with its matching pastel pink clutch bag  is perfect for a spring wedding or a day at the races. What do you think?

Rosamund Pike

The actress also proved that monochrome helps you make an entrance as she looked stunning in her white maxi dress with black ribbon detail. She’s used to wowing in dramas like Gone Girl and she makes sure that she does the same when the cameras aren’t rolling in outfits like this. The bold red lipstick finishes the look perfectly.

Samantha Cameron

Now that her husband is now longer Prime Minister, Samantha can have more fun with fashion – hence her red evening dress. It’s still quite conservative due to the high neckline and long sleeves, but the ribbon detail draws attention to her slim waist. Sometimes, a red dress can look brassy, but she shows how you can wear red to get noticed but when people look closer they see something super sophisticated and classy.

Whose dress did you like the most? If you haven’t got any special occasion coming up, maybe it’s worth hosting one yourself so you can wear something gorgeous!
